Abstract
Clear and engaging, the book will make a welcome addition to undergraduate courses in U.S. media and cultural history. In general, more context and comparison with other trials and media events of the decade would help readers understand how and why this case mattered-whether this was merely a story of two robbers who found their way into the media machine, or whether it had greater implications for the history of American journalism, celebrity culture, and national debates over women, morality, and crime.
