Abstract
Visual word recognition is usually investigated using isolated words, while effects of adjacent words in sentence reading are assumed to be beneficial due to preview benefits. However, the presence of adjacent words may interfere with processing the foveated word. Is interference simply due to the presence of visual stimulation, or is it modulated by phonological and/or lexical processing demands posed by flanking items?
