Using Intensity-Modulated Brachytherapy to Treat Cervical Cancer

Abstract

Current methods for treating cervical cancer using brachytherapy for patients with large asymmetric tumors yield a survival rate of <30%. By shielding the radiated source, smaller beamlets can be created to increase the ability to conform to the tumor. This method is predicted to increase the surivival rate for patients with large abnormal tumors.
