The University of Iowa Libraries has been providing data management workshops for the public but student attendance rate was not as high as faculty and staff attendance rate mainly because students lack incentives to attend such workshops in their spare time. To help engineering students learn some best practices on data management, two STEM librarians who lead the library research data services worked with engineering faculty to deliver a data management workshop with an emphasis on data life cycle, and best practices and resources for managing data management issues to their regular engineering classes. Based on positive feedback from engineering faculty and students, the librarians will continue bringing data management training as part of library instruction to more students.
