Abstract

In October 2012, the University of Iowa Libraries expanded and re-launched their successful Civil War Diaries and Letters Transcription Project as DIY History (http://diyhistory.lib.uiowa.edu) to include new areas of content and improved functionality. This presentation covers some of the technical challenges involved in transitioning from homegrown experiment to customized open-source software, Omeka and Scripto, as well as new strategies for repurposing metadata and content beyond the repository
