Employing Community-Engaged Evaluation Methods for Developing Learning Experiences on Racial Equity

Abstract
This presentation describes the evaluation process of the Racial Equity Learning Pilot (RELP) training - asynchronous, modular learning experiences, designed to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices among the staff of a program’s partner organizations. The evaluation's purpose was to ensure that the training could support the work of people who regularly engage with individuals who are historically underrepresented in biomedical research (UBR). Accordingly, the pilot included public library staff members as participants, ensuring the inclusion of perspectives from individuals actively working with diverse underrepresented groups. The presenters will describe in detail the training's design and evaluation process and the benefits of having a multidisciplinary project team. Furthermore, the presenters will demonstrate their collaborative approach with the training developers to ensure the use of the evaluation findings to inform the modules’ improvement. This presentation provides attendees with an understanding of how the insights gained from the project are expected to influence future DEI efforts of the program.
