Abstract
This paper describes the design and operation of a highly flexible electronic flash system based around an 8-bit microconroller. Each unit is capable of emitting short and intense flashes of white and infrared light, and able to operate with various user-defined timing and intensity settings. Multiple units are capable of communicating with a master on the same bus. The system was designed for application within ophthalmology and visual sciences research.
