Abstract
Tire dynamics simulation calls for addressing many challenging issues in the flexible body dynamics. In the transient braking and cornering analysis, the structural tire deformation due to the large load transfer causes significant change in normal contact pressure distribution and it has a dominant effect on the transient braking/cornering tire forces. Thus, the coupling effect of the structural deformation and the transient forces needs to be considered in the analysis to better understand the dynamic tire force characteristics under severe manoeuvring conditions. In this paper, the tire models developed using the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF) are introduced for multibody ground vehicle simulation, and important features of the ANCF tire models and the future perspectives are overviewed.
