Abstract
This work presents a novel framework, built around the notion of an event, for modeling, storage, analysis, and querying of multimedia data. We present an event model using which multimedia data, its spatio-temporal characteristics, and a variety of other potentially flexibly defined attributes can be represented. We also describe the design of a distributed event-based information management system that allows interpretation of multimedia data based on event definitions, storage of such event-based media data, and definition of various types of queries on such information. Examples involving event-based modeling and querying of multimedia data from different settings are presented to illustrate the approach.
