Abstract

The Coronal Radiation of Active F-Type Stars (CRAFTS) sounding rocket is designed to observe the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) radiation environments of nearby, active F-type stars identified as priority targets for the Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO). Stellar EUV emission drives exoplanet atmospheric escape; CRAFTS aims to determine if F-type stars are suitable targets for HWO. The telescope consists of two off-axis parabolic mirrors, split from a 400 mm on-axis paraboloid. Custom multi-layer (ML) coatings on each half define the EUV1 (16.5 – 21.5 nm) and EUV2 (24.5 – 29.5 nm) bands. The halves are radially offset, producing separate images onto a single CCD detector. An aluminum filter rejects out-of-band light. High EUV sensitivity is achieved through a prime focus design, high-reflectivity ML coatings, and an aluminum filter, either standalone or directly coated onto the detector. The peak effective areas of EUV1 and EUV2 are ∼70 cm2 and ∼58 cm2, respectively
