Abstract
This presentation will summarize the motivation for space-based laser altimetry, the science requirements for ICESat-2, and the current concept for the ICESat-2 mission. ICESat-2 will employ a photon-counting measurement approach using a high-repetition rate laser in a multibeam configuration.
