Abstract
The effect of the long term delivery polylactic glycolic acid /polyethylene glycol (PLGA/PEG) microspheres of the adipogenic growth factors on fat graft survival rates is described. PLGA/PEG microspheres incorporated with insulin and interleukin growth factor (IGF), separately, are manufactured using a double-emulsion-solvent extraction technique. The long term delivery of adipogenic growth factors with PLGA/PEG microspheres increases fat graft survival rates. The type of growth factor delivered can influence the grafted tissue's relative adipocyte predominance. The drug delivery device has the potential to increase the power, and the versatility, of autologous fat grafting in the clinical arena.
