Abstract
This paper presents a methodology for studying design cycles in a design process using stochastic Petri nets. Two design approaches are considered for the analysis of a cycle time in design of a printed circuit board: traditional design and concurrent engineering approach. The analysis of the two approaches has lead to the conclusion that in concurrent engineering the initial design effort takes longer than that in traditional design, while the former results in a shorter overall design cycle. A numerical computation and a graphical representation are provided for the analysis of design cycles.
