Abstract
The article discusses newcomer socialization in business. Research on the subject typically assumes that organizations treat most incoming employees in the same way or the individual newcomers' behavior has an impact on the socialization they receive, with individuals deviant from the workgroup treated differently than those who conform. The authors investigate group identity in both homogeneous and heterogeneous groups, as well as the reactions of majority group members to the introduction of similar and dissimilar newcomers.
