Abstract
This paper reports results from an experimental study conducted to understand physical activity patterns, and estimate energy expenditure in performance of physical activities in older Mexican American women. The Yale Physical Activity Survey was administered to 42 older Mexican American women (aged 60-91 years). Results indicate that older Mexican American women spend, on an average, 32.59 hours/week on physical activity. They spend most time on food preparation activities, light housework, and leisurely walking activities. They expend, on an average, 6923 kcal/week on physical activity. Most energy is spent on walking activities, food preparation activities, light housework and childcare activities. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
