Production Control Of Flexible Manufacturing Systems.

A successful implementation of Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMSs) depends as much on management and organization as on technology. In this paper the most important management and organization factors are evaluated. The analysis of these factors focuses attention on two major issues; namely, planning and scheduling methodologies embedded in an efficient information system. First, some of the classical approaches to production planning and scheduling are discussed. Then, a new FMS planning and scheduling methodology is presented.
