Abstract
We present a general approach is to utilize the interconnections between sonar acoustic color features towards robust sonar signaling. We design active sonar signaling schemes for different targets that encode the scattering physics unique to a given target onto sparse dictionary representations. The proposed technique is highly appropriate for battlespace scenarios, e.g. for detecting manmade targets of unknown geometry as well as for discovering moving covert targets that may exhibit transient albeit morphable spectral features.
