Abstract
Inadequate attention has been paid to failed interpersonal affect regulation. We examine failed interpersonal affect regulation through the lens of humor. Individual differences including gender and positive affectivity influenced reactions to failed humor. Four individual differences were related to people's self-reported motivation to persist in the regulation of others' emotions.
