Abstract
This dataset describes the mass and concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners (PCB 4, PCB 18, and PCB 52) and biphenyl dioxygenase gene (bphA) and transcript abundance in biodegradation experiments with sol-gel-coated (sol-gelGLY and sol-gelPEG) and uncoated Paraburkholderia xenovorans LB400 biofilms on corn kernel biochar (CKB). Two different experiments were conducted. One experiment was designated "Standard Conditions" and the other "Environmental Conditions". The Standard Conditions experiment featured four experiment types (no_soak,_sol-gelGLY, soak,_biofilm_only, soak,_sol-gelGLY, and soak,_sol-gelPEG) at four timepoints (day 3, day 14, day 32, and day 45), in triplicate (three replicates). The Environmental Conditions experiment featured three different treatments (uncoated biofilms on biochar, sol-gelGLY, and sol-gelPEG) under five different environmental conditions (baseline, DO, temperature (10C), humic acid, and salinity) at one timepoint (day 45), in triplicate (three replicates). Aqueous phase PCB mass was measured with Solid Phase MicroExtraction (SPME) fibers, while sorbed (solid phase) PCB mass was measured after extraction with hexane and acetone. PCB 4, PCB 18 and PCB 52 in SPME and solid sample extracts were quantified by GC-MS/MS. bphA abundance (DNA) and bphA and luciferase transcript abundance (cDNA) were measured by reverse transcription (RT)-qPCR.
