Abstract
Satellite and model estimates of soil moisture can be affected by crop development and field management decisions in agriculturally-dominated regions. However, current validation approaches don’t consider these changes, but instead investigate product performance using its whole temporal domain or partitioned calendar segments such as yearly. We developed a new validation approach/timeline that considers these landscape changes and demonstrates that “traditional” validation approaches can obscure key performance information. This dataset contains a mixture of .csv and script files used to process, analyze, and visualize open data originally sourced from government agencies and other research projects.
