Abstract
In this research, we generated a school air mixture (SAM+) of airborne polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), designed to match the profile of an older school from our adolescent cohort study (the AESOP Study). Female Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed either to SAM+ (45.5±5.9 µg/m3 Σ209PCB) or filtered air (sham) in nose-only exposure systems, 4 h/day, 6 days/week for 13 weeks. Congener-specific air and tissue PCB profiles were assessed using gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry for 209 congeners. Comprehensive toxicity assessment was conducted including neurological, immune, endocrine, and reproductive systems. The underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms were discussed. This dataset provides congener-specific profile for generated PCB vapor, and the tissue congener-specific PCB profile normalized by fresh weight. All the other original toxicity assessment data were available in this dataset.
