- Public Abstract (ETD)
Bicultural Reverie through the Voice of Violin is an album of a world-premiere studio recordings of five violin-centered compositions by five Chinese-American composers. This album aims to promote and showcase the inventions and contributions of a younger generation of Chinese-American composers. The pieces are Soaring Over a Storm for Solo Violin (2019) by Hongwei Cai, Memorial II for Violin and Piano (2018) by Yintong Liu, Into Orbit for Violin, Cello, and Piano (2019) by Wenbin Lyu, Soliloquy for Violin and Piano (2024) by Wenxin Li, and Infinite Transmigration for String Quartet (2014) by Alvin Lok-Hei Tam.
This thesis is comprised of two components. The first section features the author's recording of the five abovementioned pieces. The second section is a complementary paper providing contextual details about the composers and compositions and an interpretive commentary for each piece.
