- Public Abstract (ETD)
This thesis project is a high-quality recording comprising of the complete solo piano works by Austrian composer Mathilde Kralik von Meyrswalden (1857-1944). The works featured in this project are Fünf Klavierstücke (Five Piano Works, 1876–1878), Reigen (Round Dance, 1882), Rhapsodie (1895), Ouverture zu “Karl der Groβe in Wien” (Overture to “Karl the Great in Vienna, 1906), Festmarsch 1916, Präludium, Passacaglia und Fugato (1924), Schubert-Huldigungs-Marsch (Schubert-Homage-March), Neues Wiener Journal Walzer 1930 (New Viennese Journal Waltz), Romanze, Sonatine, and Variationen: über ein Thema von Richard Kralik. Most of these works have not been recorded professionally and some of the recordings in this project represent world premieres. The compositions in this project cover different genres and possess a great variety of distinct characters, which provide an abundance of vivid musical images. In addition to contributing to the piano repertoire, this project intends to promote works by female composers to help them achieve wider recognition and encourage fellow women composers to continue their exceptional work.
