Background: Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) has increased odds to progress from mild to end stage OA. With the timely use of a Periacetabular Osteotomy PAO, the progression of OA may be limited and the natural joint can be preserved. Following the PAO procedure, there is no gold standard of care for Physical Therapy treatment. Purpose: The purpose of this case report is to explore variable treatment options suggested from evidence-based practice techniques to allow a patient to return to sport after a PAO. Case Description: The patient was a female high school student athlete who initially presented to Physical Therapy with a diagnosis of right hip dysplasia. She had a PAO with a labral repair and had a goal of playing college field hockey Outcomes: Case study finished before outcomes could be reported, but she would need to demonstrate >90% limb symmetry index with hop testing, >90% limb symmetry index with a handheld dynamometer, and strength of >90% body weight on leg press with the involved single leg press, >90% patient reported outcome score, no increase in symptoms with sport-specific progression or testing, and Physician clearance Discussion: While some research supports the data presented in this case study, more research needs to be done before a gold standard can be determined.
