- Public Abstract (ETD)
This study explored the perspectives of six individuals who chose to separate from a professional organization following allegations that the organization was complicit in human rights violations. An interview protocol comprised of pre-determined questions, as well as opportunities for spontaneous questioning based on the participants’ responses, were used to collect data. A team of three experienced researchers analyzed the data. The data analysis was submitted to an external auditor to evaluate perceived bias. In this study, the participants compared the recent events surrounding alleged human rights violations to other major historical events, suggesting the importance of applying lessons learned to prevent or rectify future wrongdoings. They also provided several ideal responses and/or recommendations that centered on the provision of ethical guidance, truth and reconciliation processes, reparations, and organizational restructuring.
