- Public Abstract (ETD)
One of the pieces found in the Himie Voxman Research Archive which has not been distributed or seen as an active piece of the bassoon repertoire for many years is the Concerto for Oboe or Clarinet, Bassoon and Orchestra by Johann Friedrich Schubert. After studying the set of parts in the archive it was determined that creating a performance edition was the next step to make this concerto available for performance. This project revives the Concerto by providing the first published orchestral score and piano reduction.
Bassoonists are continually seeking new repertoire. This Concerto exemplifies the structural innovation and transcendent grace of the late Classical style, for which music of this era is still sought after. The essay accompanying the edition provides historical background for the composer and describes the process of creating this new edition.
