This recording project features fifteen solo piano works by Filipino composer Francisco Buencamino. Growing up in the early 1900s, Buencamino's style combined Romanticism with Filipino folk music, a characteristic evident in his piano works. To the best of my knowledge, there is no comprehensive research, such as dissertations, books, or CD recordings, dedicated solely to Buencamino s life and piano works. This lack of existing scholarship motivated me to pursue this project. Additionally, Buencamino s music holds personal significance for me; hearing his melodies brings back memories of home and my early days playing the piano.
I hope this recording will make Buencamino s piano music more accessible and inspire more pianists and music enthusiasts to explore his compositions. These solo pieces offer a rich and diverse repertoire deserving of wider recognition. Furthermore, this project provides insights into the nature, influences, and character that define Philippine classical music as a whole. I aim to introduce Buencamino s music to a global audience; his works not only reflect Filipino culture but also incorporate styles reminiscent of Western composers throughout the history of music.
