Background: Congenital amputations have a variety of causes and presentations. The purpose of this case report is to describe the unique presentation of a congenital hemipelvectomy amputation in a young American female and the development of her motor milestones with the assistance of physical therapy intervention. Case Description: An adolescent female with congenital absence of her left pelvic bone, leg, and foot presented to outpatient physical therapy for motor development and gait training with a prosthetic leg. This case covers the continuum of her development and physical therapy intervention beginning at birth and ending at four years of age. Intervention: Physical therapy intervention was provided once a week from three months to four years old. Services were provided at an outpatient clinic and local community center. Physical therapy intervention included neurodevelopmental techniques, gait training, prosthetic training, and strengthening to facilitate motor development. Outcome Measures: Functional mobility and development of motor milestones were used to assess this patient, along with the Peabody Developmental Motor Scales – 2. Discussion: This report explores appropriate outcome measures to assess pediatric amputee patients, motor development milestones and their impact on other areas of development, and physical therapy intervention for pediatric amputees.
