Introduction: A novel respiratory virus causing the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) swept across the world early in the year 2020.This disease continues to have many long-term effects on society, the health care system and patients that are recovering. History: A 52-year-old male presented to an inpatient rehabilitation facility following a long and complicated hospital stay due to COVID-19. Interventions: Early interventions included breathing techniques and decreasing anxiety. Intervention was then progressed to challenge his strength and endurance. Education was also provided to the patient and his family to ensure a smooth transition home. Outcomes: During his nine-week inpatient rehabilitation stay, the patient made significant gains in ambulation distance and supplemental oxygen needs. He also improved functional independence measure level. Discussion: This patient presented following a long and complicated battle with COVID-19. There is still much to be learned about the long-term impact and recovery potential for these patients. We can use what we know from other respiratory conditions to guide our interventions and plan of care. We must follow guidelines set in place, stay up-to-date on the latest research, and continue to use sound clinical judgment when treating patients with a history of COVID-19.
