- Public Abstract (ETD)
This recording project presents a selection of character pieces for solo piano by Chinese contemporary composer Gao Ping (b.1970), including “Dance Fury - Homage to Astor Piazzolla (2000),”; “The Autumn Pond (2012),” “LefTango - For Left Hand Alone (2013),” “The Sea, My Hometown (2013)” “Distant Forest (2016),” “Two Waltzes (2019-2020),” and “Piano Wanderings (2020).” These compositions, many of which are recorded professionally for the first time, illustrate Gao’s unique integration of Eastern and Western musical traditions. His works are characterized by their evocative storytelling and intricate pianistic techniques, offering rich, programmatic narratives that captivate the listener. This project seeks to enhance the global piano repertoire and increase the visibility of contemporary Chinese music by highlighting Gao’s significant contributions.
