- Public Abstract (ETD)
This thesis project is a high-quality recording consisting of selected solo piano works by Croatian female composer Dora Pejačević (1885–1923). Born into a prominent and cultivated family, Pejačević was well-educated in many areas, including music, literature, and philosophy. Despite her relatively short life, Pejačevič was a prolific composer. She wrote 108 works, including 25 solo piano pieces. In her piano works, Pejačević presents a range of different musical genres, from small character pieces to sonatas and concertos.
The works featured in this project are Berceuse (Lullaby), op. 2, 6 Phantasiestücke (Six Fantasy Pieces), op. 17, Blumenleben (The Life of Flowers), op. 19, Berceuse (Lullaby), op. 20, Erinnerung (Remembrance), op. 24, Walzer-Capricen (Waltzes-Caprices), op. 28, 2 Nocturnes, op. 50, and Sonata in A flat Major, op. 57.
Minji Kwon is the first Korean-American pianist to record solo piano music of Pejačević.
