- Public Abstract (ETD)
This study examined the experiences of family caregivers providing care for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease-Related Dementias (AD/ADRD). Given the aging population, the number of caregivers is expected to increase significantly. Caregivers face substantial stress and burden while managing the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). To understand these challenges, this study examined how burden stress, and disruptive behaviors impacted caregivers. Also, caregivers were asked about ways that they feel that counselors can support them. It is the hope that the results of this study will help counselors understand the issues that impact caregivers as well as ways that counselors can provide support to this population.
