Abstract
Professional development is essential for helping art educators meet the complex and critical needs of their classrooms. The purpose of this study was to explore the influences of a studio-based workshop as a form of professional development on the teaching practices of art educators. Art educators in this study self-selected either a two-day or five-day studio-based workshop. Workshops focused on a specific art medium and were selected based on relevance to each art educator. Through interviews, artifacts, and a workshop observation, this paper examines the experiences of art educators who participated in a studio-based workshop. The main themes that emerged in this research were: (a) curriculum and instruction development, (b) artistic skill development, (c) community, and (d) artistic identity.
