Abstract
Some students find it easier and less intimidating to learn from and ask for help from their peers rather than from their instructor or a professional librarian. In this poster, participants will learn about a peer mentoring program that has been established through a branch library at a large university to help students succeed in a challenging introductory biology course. In a versatile approach, student peer mentors provide tutoring and lead group study sessions at the library while representing and promoting the library. The peer-mentoring program complements the librarian-led one-shot instruction that also takes place in the course. Objective 1: Outline the important components of a library-led peer mentoring program. Objective 2: Describe how a library-led peer-mentoring program can enhance student success. Objective 3: Explain the ways in which a library-led peer-mentoring program can promote visibility and support for the library.
