- Public Abstract (ETD)
This paper examines the process that the actor has developed as a new and highly personalized method for applying technique and training to their work. The research analysis performed by the actor, to determine how this process is now in place, explores their relationship to their body of work prior to their admittance to The University of Iowa’s Professional Actor Training MFA Program, and how their tenure in this program has redefined their personal methodology.
This research is comprised of a process of applied evaluation. First, the student actor’s introduction to new techniques, as taught by the program’s professors and supported by the writings and or teachings from other performance art theorists, is synthesized through applied studies, in both laboratory settings and onstage assignments, with guided faculty feedback. Next, the student actor’s self-evaluation of growth and demonstrable use of new methodologies are drawn in comparison against their former learning. Finally, the student actor is able to identify the new patterns of blended techniques that have begun to emerge at this point in their training.
