- Public Abstract (ETD)
This series of large-scale figurative paintings is about gender identity: who is painted in powerful poses; how men are portrayed in media versus how women are portrayed; who is allowed to have resting bitch face without calling it resting bitch face; and how we present our authentic selves. Slouching, candid, annoyed, bored, everyday, capable, alert, observant, in control. These works reflect how the sitter might exist alone in their own space, or with someone they are unguarded around. With my work I provide a counter narrative to the broad overarching stereotypes that many of us unconsciously internalize through socialization, interpersonal relationships, or media with which we are barraged in every aspect of our lives.
