- Public Abstract (ETD)
Interior lighting design plays a vital role in our daily lives. Well-designed lighting should be aesthetic, functional, and innovative. Poorly designed lighting can not only affect our sight, but also our mood and ability to focus. Different lighting forms may change the overall functionality of a light, from bright to dim, cool to warm, direct to diffused. Varying brightness and tones of light also impact the overall design and function of the piece. It should be the priority of the designer to create a light fixture that is aesthetically pleasing, without forfeiting functionality. This thesis will cover the different characteristics that make a light fixture both a creative work and a functional light source. My work seeks to explore different methods of creating light fixtures as well as varying 3D forms to control light.
