- Public Abstract (ETD)
This thesis consists of four translations of narrative journalistic pieces from Latin America: “Un artista del mundo inmóvil”/ ”An Artist from the Immobile World” by Leila Guerriero; “¿Está el Señor Monsiváis?”/ “Is Señor Monsiváis Home?” by Fabrizio Mejía Madrid; “Un fin de semana con Pablo Escobar”/ ”A Weekend with Pablo Escobar” by Juan José Hoyos; and “Viaje al fondo de la biblioteca de Pinochet”/ ”Voyage to the Bottom of Pinochet’s Library” by Cristóbal Peña. Each piece belongs to a Latin American nonfiction genre called the crónica, or chronicle. The introduction explores the nature of the crónica as a genre as well as the challenges in translating them with specific discussions of each piece, followed by the four translations.
