FULLJOY is an essay and a body of work consisting of an artist’s book with original poetry, paintings, handmade paper, and sculptural handmade paper works. Both the essay and artworks explore how Black joy and Black imagination are crucial to Black people’s healing and resistance. The essay was written in April 2021 and examines the theory behind Afrofuturism. The works were completed between March 2021 and April 2022 and answer the questions “Where are the artist’s books about Black joy?” and “Can I make art about flowers?”
