Abstract

Introducing Sri Lankan contemporary literature in translation to World Literature is an exciting challenge. It involves a multitude of concerns, a series of ethical, theoretical, and practical battles to be fought, won, and lost. Half Moon Sons is one result of such mind battles. This thesis presents the English translation of Part One of the Sinhalese novel අටවක පුත්තු [Aṭavaka puttu] (Half Moon Sons) by Liyanage Amarakeerthi. It was first published in 2007 in Sri Lanka and won the State Literary Award for the best novel in the following year. The translation is accompanied by a translator’s preface where the translator introduces the text and its significance along with the process of translation.
