- Public Abstract (ETD)
Motion, intention, restraint and direction. Manufactured materials, from the readymade ratchet to raw and flexible green hackberry lumber, scaffold the architecture they inhabit. The material modality and rudimentary color/form combinations that are accidentally reminiscent of Russian constructivism, intersect with the spirit of anarchy at the heart of Italy’s guerilla ‘Arte Povera.’ While structural, the installation works are impermanent; they mock the rigid format of the constructivist manifesto, while raising continual inquiry to the architecture of intentions.
A heightened material drama allows for the empathic capabilities of physical bodies to supersede the literacy demanded by symbolic representation. Through a flexible installation format heavily influenced by a background in drawing, a viewer may become keenly aware of their body in the space they inhabit.
