- Public Abstract (ETD)
I have always considered myself to be an artist. Creating things with my hands gives me a deep sense of satisfaction and creativity. Experimenting with different mediums has helped strengthen how I create visual images both as a visual artist and a theatre artist. When I approach design as a theatrical costume designer, I don’t tackle each show process in the same manner, but instead treat each production like its own unique and individualized piece of art. In a practical sense my role as a costume designer is to provide clothing for the cast members onstage, but in a more creative sense to express to the audience visually who these characters are and how they fit into the world of the stage conceptualized by the creative team. At their most effective, costumes do more than offer striking visuals, they also convey a narrative that supports and enriches the story of the play.
