- Lossful explores traditional biases that shape individuals through the childhood and early adult life stages. The investigation pulls directly from confronting and analyzing personal life events. When I was younger, I ran away from the unfaceable issues through drawing, photography, reading, writing, etc. Using the same escape methods, I am revisiting the fled moments. The work explores grievances that entangle my early years of life and being content with the unknown. With this work, I invite others to reflect upon their past and what they chose to ignore, embrace, and sit with those moments. I hope that those who view this work will find something hidden within themselves, similarly to myself. My works take shape through a couple of photographic practices, specifically darkroom photograms and constructed digital lens-based imagery. Both photography acts use the same subject material, window screen mesh. The material is an accumulation of threads that form an orderly structure. Once the hand manipulates the material, the mesh takes on the thoughts and emotions of the handler, becoming chaotic, unclear, and lossful. The construction process is one of play, emotional output, and experimentation. In the recording process of both photographic practices, the results are unpredictable. The final products are calming, nettlesome, and at times confusing. A reminder that there is no set path in life; to embrace those moments of uncertainty.
