- Public Abstract (ETD)
Love is a mysterious emotion that each person defines according to their experiences, and each one of these experiences would change how we interact, describe, and feel love. The only constant and common fact about love is what happens inside our brains and bodies when we find someone attractive. You may start to feel those quirky signs like sweating and being foolish. And chances are, your heart begins thudding inside your chest.
After being in love, I became enthusiastic about understanding what was happening inside my body. For a long time, most people, including me, believed that love derived from the heart until scientific discoveries revealed the truth. Love is all about the brain, which causes the rest of your body to be out of control and chaotic. We love with our brains, not hearts. The human brain has three built-in systems determining how our bodies respond when meeting someone who may be a possible winning match (Wu, 2020).
Besides my interest in design, I value science and believe that an interdisciplinary collaboration of both areas can lead to magnificent work that highlights scientific findings, shows the importance of design, and educates the public about love. My way to fulfill this project's objectives was to focus on scientific research about the chemical of love until I knew I would employ it in my artwork. My artwork aims to visualize how the three love systems (lust, attraction, and attachment) and the group of hormones stemming from the brain, represent each of these systems act inside the body.
