Abstract
This paper will examine and document my working process, feelings and desires for painting. Through short poem and thought fragments, I will describe my interior and exterior worlds. Small, simple landscape paintings depict not only how reality is but also how I want it to be- part dream, part truth. Memory, space and sublime ideals are evident. Rest, space and intimacy are so important, they are my goal.
My paintings do not seek to change the world. I would much rather slow and stop it. I want to bring a relief, to create a small escape, a chance to move away from the physical world into a space of maximum simplicity and beauty.

My work is not meant for anything in particular; it is sparse and simple and perhaps a little boring. This is wholly purposeful. I want to make a painting that will offer a relief for the viewer. The world is a big, busy, loud place and there must be ways to move away from that, my paintings are such. They are small and compact, inviting the viewer in close to see. The landscapes could be anywhere, anything, to anyone. I want to take the greatness of space and landscape and put into a picture that can be held. Closeness, truth and intimacy is what I can give with my work.
