Resurface | Remember seeks to investigate, embody, and remember human connection with natural elements of the earth through the spiritual, somatic, and creative self. Influenced by the philosophies of Shintoism, an indigenous Japanese religion that cultivates harmony between humans and nature, the two-part solo both aim to understand the phenomenological experience of the dancing body in relation to the natural world and lack thereof. I use the methodology of allowing my body and allowing the art to inform the creative process. This research culminates in an embodied connectivity with the natural environment presented through a virtual format. The first solo encapsulates the process in which my human body connects with nature. The other excavates the traces of the experience mentioned prior in a world that does not allow for this relationship to exist.
