- Public Abstract (ETD)
self shifting/shifting self seeks to confront, question, and investigate notions of identity, complexity of the self, and the human experience by way of creative process and dance performance. The presentation of three movements, a quartet, duet, and solo, is the synthesis of what is being named, “living documentation.” By confronting my individual lived experiences and curiosities through verbal, physical, and written prompts, this personal research culminates into an embodied interpretation of the pressures and shifts that come with change and growth of the self. Situated as a performer, maker, and collaborator in all three works magnifies the concept of “living documentation” by bringing myself forward in a vulnerable and honest manner to the audience. The methodologies explored in this process inspire both abstract and defined choreographic choices, aligning the creative process with the progression of my personal findings as I seek to understand my whole self from a macro to a micro lens. Furthermore, I aim to challenge my performance abilities by pursuing the representation of my most present self within a performative environment. By examining and navigating theories of performance and the body through movement research, I question the ability to achieve authenticity and to what extent, within my performance.
