- Public Abstract (ETD)
The connective tissue in my graduate portfolio thus far has been the manipulation and application of textiles. My MA portfolio includes projects from the courses I have taken up to this point in which I have been introduced to new techniques and materials. It has been helpful to consider the marriage of textiles with the coursework assigned in my 3D Design classes, particularly in interior and furniture applications. By now, though, an individualized proposal for a body of work foregrounding textiles will support my zeal and enhance my expertise in the medium moving forward.
The leading ambition in pursuing this medium is the production of ambiguous furnishings that can be used indoors and out, with an emphasis on multiples and subtleties that can accommodate varying tastes and spatial environments. Pursuing this path will envelop technical sewing skills learned in my design courses, screen printing on textiles developed in printmaking, and considering social and environmental impact as a maker in the 21st century.
