This is a project about my search for the origins and possible meaning behind my grandfather’s last words, which the title of the thesis and show bear, the flight of the wild duck. This project is rooted in language and the passage of language, the way it is shared, withheld, forgotten, interpreted, and discovered. The photographs illustrate a complex transmission through time, distance, memory, and interpretation. The work is made up of a series of photographs that were created with the use of a photographic microscope and printed with unique darkroom techniques, paired with texts of the image of the flying duck in drama, journalism, literature, and poetry.
