Abstract
The Words of Ants is a full-length play that follows the journey of Yang Yan, a rural woman who is discovered as the last natural inheritor of a women's language. When a once- private language is made public by people with different agendas, what gets lost in the sweeping efforts of preservation and celebration? Is it still possible to recreate the sisterhood that once breathed life into this language?
